I know, the Caterpillar

Posted by jackie blue on February 27th, 2003

I know, the Caterpillar should be done by now. I have maybe 10 or 15 more rows to do on the turtleneck and then just finish sewing it all together. I meant to finish it during Tuesday’s slow day at work but then I discovered I left a crucial color at home. Silly. I’m also about a third way into my dog sweater. I’m not following a pattern, just looking at the sweater he already has an trying to follow the measurements. I’m doing a sports jersey motif, with his name and a number on the back.

I’m also procrastinating what I should do today, that is, laundry and the gym. And finishing my Flash homework. Basically, I did the assignment, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. I don’t know why I am having such a hard time getting motivated lately with almost everything. I just want to crawl in bed and watch TV.

I am beginning to

I am beginning to wonder if I’ll ever make it back to SnB. Due to yesterday’s impromptu snow day off from work, an entire 128 page newspaper has to go out today. And one of the paginators quit 2 weeks ago, and the other is out today, and 2 paste up people are absent out of 3, so we are screwed today. I expect a very late night. I only have a few minutes of calm while they figure out the page situation, so thus I am here.

We are still digging out of the big blizzard. My poor mother, 76 years old, took 3 1/2 hours to get to work this morning. It’s usually a half hour train ride. She had to take 3 buses and a train. If you’ve never heard a sweet elderly lady curse like a truck driver, it was this morning. Poor Mom. On the other hand, I made it to work in a breeze, with a dog in tow. Aside from some mountain climbing near our office (nothing is plowed here, sidewalk wise), it was uneventful.

Well, back to work. No knitting today.

SNOW DAY!! Although today

SNOW DAY!!

Although today is President’s Day, I, unlike most of America, was supposed to work today. I woke up my phone ringing at 7:15 - the office is closed! Whoa! We never close. I have no idea how much snow actually fell so far, but drifts are easily 2 feet high. Now I know those of you in Northern climates are thinking “Big deal, we have that every day”, but in NYC, everything shuts down. This is our worst blizzard since 1996. Back then, even NYC transit stopped running, but the office didn’t close. They set up carpooling for everyone to make it in. But today, the guy who opens the office couldn’t get his car out. I guess also that they figured with the holiday and our printer being closed, why bother. Tomorrow will be hell if we go in though.

With most of my freelance work awaiting client feedback, I have a free day to knit now. I am almost done with the Caterpillar sweater, just sewing it together and the neck are left. Since that is my least favorite part, I’m procrastinating, and already started an easy mindless project. I’m knitting a dog sweater out of a black alapaca blend. My little shorn doggie needs those sweaters now.

I also have 2 upcoming babies to knit for. My newest grandniece or nephew arrives in April. I’d love to do a layette but don’t know if I’ll have the time. I am also loath to buy more yarn when I have tons at home, but I don’t have any layette appropriate yarn. I also have a friend who is becoming a father in Sept. At least that one I have more time for.

This is the third time I am posting this, by the way. I don’t know why Blogger is eating my posts, but it’s very frustrating to keep updating. Maybe this is the day to move over to Movable Type.

I posted this whole

Posted by jackie blue on February 12th, 2003

I posted this whole thing yesterday and somehow Blogger ate it. Anyway, I was going on and on about the terrorist alerts in NYC and how for the first time, I’m actually scared, and all this stuff about what if something happens when I’m not home to save my pets or if it happens to ME somewhere and I can’t go home to them? God, it’s so depressing and I really don’t even want to recreate that post, I just don’t want to think about it anymore. I was a nervous wreck all Monday and yesterday.

Still bogged down with work so not much knitting going on. I am thisclose to finishing the second Caterpillar sleeve and then have the neck to do. I have to say, I’m sick of working on that sweater. Sick of the color changes, sick of the endless tangling. It’ll be nice to actually wear it but now I just want it out of my life. I kind of want to go back to my cotton Surf sweater but with working all hours and 7 days lately, who has time? I had a meeting today (shortest meeting ever, 10 minutes!!) but if it actually develops into something, I’ll have yet more work. I feel great about it and at the same time, my social life is taking a complete nosedive. Then again, I’m safer locking myself in my apartment, right? The terrorists and the freelance clients are winning.
