Well, here’s the first

Posted by jackie blue on April 30th, 2003

Well, here’s the first square of my blanket. The second one is nearly done. I have client work all day (and the gym, I hope!) and then school work tonight, so I probably won’t get to finish the next square till bedtime. I plan on doing an hour each night of my busy days, and more on the days that are more leisurely, so hopefully I can get this done in just a few weeks.

It was uncharacteristically slow

It was uncharacteristically slow yesterday morning at work, for a Monday. I spent the morning doing nothing but thinking about the blanket I wanted to make for the new baby (yes, another project starting with so many others unfinished) and since it was slow and I was antsy, I got a coworker to drive me over to Knitting Hands and in less than 10 minutes, I picked out the yarn I wanted. I bought Filatura di Crosa’s Zara, which is 100% merino wool and so soft and yummy for baby things, in a very pretty cucumber green color. I bought out their stash and ordered 12 more balls which I’ll get next week. I know the dye lot will be different but I’m hoping it won’t be at all noticable. Usually with better yarns, you can’t really tell.

The blanket I’m making is from Rowan #33. It’s a Kim Hargreaves design (she’s my favorite) and although not meant to be a baby blanket, I think if I make it half size it will be fine. This is the blanket:

It’s done in squares, and I already have a square done. It’s SO pretty! I’m on square 2 now since it’s slow again at work. I will scan the first square or photograph it later. This stupid computer doesn’t have an FTP program to upload it.

Other than that, I’m missing the most lovely weather here in this office, and the rest of the week will be spent doing classwork and client work. I hope I can fit knitting these squares in somehow, even if it’s just an hour or so before bed each night.

Just when I’m trying

Posted by jackie blue on April 25th, 2003

Just when I’m trying to think of what to knit for my new grand niece, Miriam, I find out that a *4th* grand niece or nephew is due in October. Yes, my nephew and his wife are expecting their second child. My family is a baby factory! I had to reassure a friend who said last night that he was afraid to look at me that I will not be contributing to the fertility party anytime soon. Meanwhile, I know what I want to make for Miriam, but I must get some new yarn. I don’t think I will make it to any yarn stores till next week. I have a web site to build for a client and school work to finish for my last class next week.

Meanwhile, I am almost better but still kind of stuffy and coughing up a lung. That is the worst part. I purposely didn’t make plans for tonight but I don’t want this bug to ruin the rest of my weekend. I wonder if it’s wise to go to the gym today. I’m feeling withdrawal.

And one last thought of the day. I realize that NYC hasn’t been so springlike and that it must be hard to raise two toddlers in a one bedroom apartment - not much room for play. But WHY do people think it’s OK to use the hallway as a playground, especially when they know that certain people (me) work from home most of the time?
I have been very patient with these people and not complained once in the 3 years they have had these kids, but I getting to the end of my rope. The hallway is NOT a basketball court and I am not going to be very nice much longer.

Have a good day, people!

I’ve spent much of

Posted by jackie blue on April 23rd, 2003

I’ve spent much of this week being sick as can be, so I have not been knitting or doing much else. I worked all day Monday with a really bad cold and low grade fever, so I spent as much time as I could in bed yesterday, getting little bits of work done when I felt up for it. My schoolwork (end of semester assignment due next week) is very sadly not getting done yet. Today I’m getting some client work done but still have to lie down inbetween small tasks.

I’ve been trying to think of what to make for my new grand niece, Miriam, but the big problem is that I have SO MUCH yarn at home that I am loathe to buy any more, but yet none is really appropriate for things I want to make for a newborn. I have some lovely superwash merino in a really nice light green, but it’s a boucle type yarn that doesn’t take to any stitch patterns other than stockinette. I might just have to buy something new. And then find the time to make something. My own year-long sweater project isn’t getting done either. You’d think all this sick time would result in a lot of knitting, but I could barely hold my stuffed up head up.

Well, it’s back to HTML for me.
