Praise the mail man

Posted by jackie blue on November 14th, 2003

I got my Rowan 4 ply in the mail today. It’s soft and lovely, the color is GORGEOUS. But damn this stuff is thin, it’s like knitting with dental floss. OK, it’ll make a really nice lightweight baby option though. I also started swatching with it doubled. I figure if it’s really too thin for whatever project I choose, I have enough skeins to double it up. It actually knits up lovely doubled. But, it makes a much thicker fabric and I was trying to go for the LA weather, here. So it will just take a lifetime to finish, whatever I do, and I may have to do some pattern adjusting as most of my options call for at least a DK weight.

Tomorrow is my first day/evening with no real set plans and I plan to knit up a storm, or at least finish Latifa. It’s been a crazy busy week and I need some down time.

Last night caught a screening of Tim Burton’s new movie, Big Fish. It will be released around Christmas and I do recommend it. At first it’s quirkiness didn’t really work for me and I spent the first half of the movie not that impressed, but then it all got tied together, and I walked out really liking it a lot. Some are calling it his best movie yet.

Hectic week

This has become one of the busiest weeks in recent months. Aside from freelance work, I have a job interview today (didn’t even apply for the job) – a potential client meeting tomorrow, and plans just about every evening from last Monday to this Sunday. I have no time to knit. I have no time to think.

Last night the current guy and I went to see Love, Actually, a movie I was really looking forward to because of it’s superb cast, director’s past wins (I loved Four Weddings even if he only wrote it) and hey, who doesn’t love a little holiday romance? But oh god, it’s TERRIBLE in it’s cliches. I mean, we were both entertained, but I think we had more fun spending the following 2 or 3 hours regurgitating every single BAD cliche that they dug up from every romance flick ever made. I am furious at how much sugar they put into this film. But by all means, go see it if you want, Martin Freeman and Bill Nighy are worth the price of admission alone.

Grrrrrrrrr

I know this blog isn’t about music but would someone please make Barenaked Ladies and their STOOOOPID song about chimpanzees go away?!? I don’t think I’ve loathed a music act more since Alanis Morrisette.

Stitchin’ & Bitchin’

We had a RARE Get Out Of Jail Free card at work today, and left at 7, on a Monday. Unheard of! So, with no dog to tie me down, I was able to make it to the new Brooklyn version of SnB. Thank god Latifa travels with me! Anyway, it was a small group but SO nice to see a couple of the old regulars and meet some really nice new people as well. I won’t hold out hope that I will make it every week but if I can just get out early enough even once or twice a month, it would be really nice. I also hope to make it back to the Manhattan version some time as well.

Latifa is getting to be a good length but it is still about 25 inches from where the pattern actually calls for. I haven’t decided yet if I will make it a bit shorter just to end it already. I will work on it a little more tonight and as much as I can at work tomorrow and then see.
