Angels at Pottery Barn

Posted by jackie blue on December 17th, 2004

Earlier this year, I noticed a number of pieces of my flatware missing. It was a gorgeous set from Pottery Barn but tarnished easily, so they didn’t look at that great anymore, and the loss of pieces prompted my mother to gift me with a whole new set. From PB again. It took me a lot of looking at various places to find a set I loved.

SO I LOST ANOTHER FORK the other day. It pains me that I think I’m losing my mind. I don’t know how I lose things in my apartment, and yet, never lose an umbrella outside or anything. I can only guess that in frenziness of cleaning, I have thrown it out accidentally.

I cried over my stupidity and an incomplete, fairly new set. I really hoped they still had that pattern because it was never on the web site and things change so quickly there.

So yesterday I ran down there. They had it!! But I asked if they could order
me one replacement fork so I don’t have to buy a $45 place setting for one
piece. They don’t do that!! Which is really stupid.

But the guy tells me they keep a box of stuff that used to be on display and isn’t being used. He went down to check. He came back up and gave me the exact fork I needed, no charge.

Happy happy happy.

Oh yeah, knitting. Between work and holiday parties, you’d wonder when I have time. Well I finished one front piece of the Ribby Cardi, and since I had a dr. appt. this morning 2 blocks from School Products, I had to stop there to fondle yarn. I didn’t buy any, but I did buy 2 size 2 Addi Turbo needles. Why would I need 2 of the same size? Well, to knit SOCKS of course. Yes Cari, you read right. I had never knit socks on 2 circs before but Cari convinced me to try, and I had some Regia sitting around for like 2 years.

So tomorrow I’ll meet my gals at 1:00 and who knows what project will come with me. Might be a sock. Might be a cardi panel. Might be both.

A Hodgepodge of Stuff

I admit it, I’ve been scatterbrained lately. I’m lucky I can even finish a project and remember to post about it now and then. I’m convinced sometimes that I am losing my mind. Stuff keeps disappearing in my apt. No, no one is stealing things. But I think I’m throwing things away. Things I need, like computer parts and flatware. Oh, the flatware story. It’s too sad to tell. Let us just say, I think some brain cells are missing too. And I don’t like it.

But, I did finish that chunky ribbed scarf and I decided for the next one I would try garter again on those dreaded 17s. This time I stuck with it. And it’s kinda cool, this weird semi pooling (hi Alison) flow of colors that remind me of a lily pond.

Both scarves came out too short. The garter one will stretch out but I fear the ribbed scarf (a gift) will have to be worn short. It’s OK I think, it’s too chunky to be 6 feet long. Anyway, the garter scarf is staying with me. I decided I needed an extra warm scarf for this winter we’re having. Oh wait, it’s been in the 60s. Well, it will get cold someday.
So my mother finished that Boo sweater. Isn’t it darling?? I wish I made this sweater myself. I wish I had a little girl just so I can give it to her and see it every day. Well, the recipient and her parents loved it. She’s the older one in this photo. See the little one though? Recognize that dress? If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you’ll remember that Guernsey and that I made it for the older one when she was 2. Now the little one wears it, though it’s a little big. Here’s another shot of that cutie.
And that’s not all I have to report. Friday the mailman buzzed with a package and I thought it might be my final SP3 gift (yes, that ended and yes, I’ll report on both my pals but for now, I’m still supposed to be getting one more thing) but instead I got a lovely surprise from one slim bunny. Look here! Some really pretty Plassard yarn in a fuzzy pale blueish gray. I have such great knitting pals.

OK, I think that’s it for my report. In the morning I have computer issues, a long work day, and wondering if I’ll be able to find my head to look forward to. Should be some day.

Chunk o’Ribs

You’d think I’d be tired of 2×2 rib by now. (I am.) Well, this chunky scarf is about 2/3 done and will probably be finished tonight. I tried to do a garter like the Morehouse folks had on display but my garter was coming out way too tight (I used size 13 needles, as my 17s are round and have far too little needle shaft, I hate them – they are clunky to use and the short needle is impossibly stubborn to get stitches back on when they’ve veered off to the cord). And then I tried a drop stitch/garter pattern which was pretty, but I think way too girly for the recipient – and so I stuck with a chunky rib that I will probably fringe for a little girliness. It’s quite thick and I hope blocking will keep it from being too bunched and not drapey enough.
I have another skein to make another scarf gift at some point (not sure yet for who) so – what stitch do people like best with extra chunky yarn?

Cardi Collage

I know I’ve been bad about updating lately, but I have been doing some knitting, I swear. Here’s what I have of the Ribby Cardi so far. That’s a back, one sleeve, and part of a front piece.

Work has taken over the last few days but I am sneaking in some stitches when I can.
merino.jpgThe gift giving season has also snuck up on me and luckily (or unfortunately, whichever way you look at it) my family and friends don’t usually do the big gift giving extravaganza. Sure, the kids get something (my mother made that gorgeous Boo sweater, photos soon) and I’ll exchange with my mom and I like to make some things for friends if I can. Well, this morning I acquired this merino from Morehouse which is destined to become a chunky, quickie scarf for my dog walker. No other knit gifts are planned yet (haha, can you say procrastination?) but it’s not out of the question.
