Knitting Meme

Posted by jackie blue on March 14th, 2005

Mindy tagged me (and I was so bad about filling out the movie meme when I was last tagged, sorry about that) so here I go with this one:

1. Do you knit continental or English?
I knit like no one else. It’s a weird version of Continental – but I hold the yarn so differently than anyone I’ve seen. And I wrap rather than pick. But I’m left handed, so little of what I do makes sense, it just works out to look good, so who cares?

2. How long ago did you learn to knit?
When I was about 15, so what, 25 years ago? Wow, that’s a long time.

3. First FO?
I’m not even 100% sure it was this, but I think it was a cotton, 2 tone, geometric sweater from Vogue Knitting. So 80s. Pink and white. It’s still around, in my mother’s closet.

4. Favorite yarn?
Impossible question! I love so many. I love Classic Elite Tryst cashmere but I’ve never used it because it’s soooo expensive. I love the Socks that Rock yarn for socks, and the new Knitpicks merino is so soft and lovely that’s becoming a favorite too.

5. Favorite pattern?
Another tough one. I really liked Chicknits Ribby Cardi because it was so quick and easy, and fits so well.

6. Favorite pattern source?
Rowan, hands down. Phildar a close second, and Rebecca is moving up on the charts.

7. Favorite needles?
I use Addi Turbos exclusively.

8. Nicest thing you’ve ever knit?
I’m quite fond of my Phildar cabled hoodie.

9. Most hated project?
The finished result is gorgeous but my Caterpillar sweater was MURDER to work on, 15 colors stranded together different ways in teeny stripes, ack. Tangle city.

10. Who are you going to pass this on to?
I think everyone has gotten this already. If you’re reading it and you haven’t, consider yourself tagged, and leave a link in my comments so I can read yours too.

Mail Call!!

I was in such a crappy mood this morning. Work is overwhelming – I just got hired for a new project and this should be good news but I have so much going on already and another client keeps piling it on so it’s hard to get to the other (bigger, better paying) projects. I had to rip out a good portion of one of Lisette’s front panels last night because I did the armhole too low. Basically, it’s been stress city around here.
Then I tossed work aside to go meet my drafty table ladies. And they always put a smile on my face no matter how bleak things are. And Iris gave me some chocolate from Moscow, and you know what chocolate can do for one’s mood.
Then I get home and there are 2 packages for me. OH JOY! Look what Jenn sent me for guessing her hair color!!
jennsgift.jpg That yarn is the yummiest superwash wool from Mountain Colors. The colorway is *gorgeous* and it’s so soft. Jenn said it would make great socks, and I do believe she is right. Then some hand care from Burt’s Bees (and boy, I need it) and…chocolate! Thank you Jenn, what a great gift to come home to.
In the same delivery came my Knitpicks merino for a baby blanket for a friend. This stuff will make a very warm blanket for her boy, due in July. So I have time on that. He won’t need a blanket till Fall anyway. I hope she won’t mind the handwashing. She requested blue so blue she’s getting, but I’m not much of a pastel baby blue kind of person (at least for babies, I actually like it on me) so I think these colors work well together and will make a nice bright and happy carriage blanket.

So, this post is getting long and I won’t go into a big review of Spamalot but all I can say is if you’re in NY, hurry and get tickets before it’s impossible. The show is SO GOOD, I’m still singing the songs in my head, and I want to see it again and again. The cast is superb. It didn’t hurt that I sat 7th row dead center in house seats. But it’s a small theatre so there isn’t a bad seat, really.
And it’s mostly back to work, for me. Sigh.

Got Rowan?

I do, FINALLY. A week later than everyone else, it seems. But I love most of it. My favorites?

I love the center one so much I’m tempted to drop everything I’m working on to make it for spring before it gets too warm. But alas, I have so many other things to finish too. And too much work lately to even knit much.

And I just ordered some merino from Knitpicks for a baby blanket gift. Yet another thing to get done.

I’m blowing off work this afternoon to go see Spamalot. I need a break, man, I really do.

Man, it smells in here.

I put up water to boil and made the flame too big.
There was a large paper grocery bag inside a plastic bag
sitting on my counter, way too close. The bags caught fire.
FAST.

I quickly threw them into the sink but the flames were high
and then my paper towel roll on the wall above the sink caught
fire too.

So I ran, and got a towel, and beat it low into the sink,
but the paper towel roll was still lit.

So I grabbed a pitcher and kept throwing water at the sink
and wall. And managed to put it all out, god help me.

Then the smoke alarm went off.

And I shook for about 3 hours.

This morning it still smells like a fire sale in here.

I am not having a good year. First an exploding outlet, now this. And I
didn’t even win millions in the lottery to start the chain*.

But look who came out of hiding. Hi Lisette!
