Piles

Posted by jackie blue on August 31st, 2005

The gates of freelance work have opened up (why oh why BEFORE Labor Day? Isn’t anyone on vacation?) and I’m buried under virtual piles of work.
But I’m managing a lot of knitting in between. Wouldn’t have guessed, have you? Well it’s pointless to show the progress on Deli’s sleeves. Mile and miles of purple stockinette. But trust me when I say I’m halfway through the second sleeve and soon will be working on miles and miles of lace trim. I want to have this one done for Rhinebeck. We are staying the weekend this year, yay!

There’s also piles of this.

11.5 squares to go. The baby was born over a month ago. But they don’t need this till cold weather, so it’s OK, right? How long is acceptable to wait to give a baby gift? I’m knitting as fast as I can!
I also need to prioritize the rest of my piles of projects. For a start I think I have the short list:

  • Finish the squares, sew together, knit endless border.
  • Finish Deli sleeves and lace, and finishing in time for Oct. 14
  • Pick up long neglected Lisette and finsh that one
  • Secret project I can’t blog about
  • Another secret project I can’t blog about
  • Pick up bulky cabley sweater coat I started last year

Hmm… I think this will get me through winter.

C’est finis

Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes. I had a really nice weekend. But, I put too much faith in the weather folks and believed them when they said rain on Sunday. Since it didn’t rain, and was sunny and scorching hot but I had already decided not to head out to the beach, I had plenty of time and air conditioning to finish Ene’s Shawl.

Since I don’t have a blocking board and all floor is taken up by dog, I just rinsed her and hung her from the shower. Let me tell you, wet Alpaca Cloud smells like a wet alpaca. Indeed.
But I think all that work has paid off. Isn’t she pretty??

Two birthdays and an anniversary

Against my will, I turn 40 today. I assure you, it’s chronologically only.ty_me_8.19.05.jpg
Now go wish my birthday twin, Cari, a Happy Birthday too. I had a great time tonight sharing our birthday, surrounded by people I didn’t know a year ago and who I wouldn’t trade for the world now. I love you, friends. I am so lucky to have met so many people through this little hobby I have called knitting, and the impulse to put up a site about it. A blog about knitting? Who is going to read that? Thankfully, so many wonderful people have. And I am astounded at the friendships I have made through this.
It’s also three years of togetherness with the best dog in the world, Ty. I had no idea the bond we would have, the joy he would bring me. I truly am a lucky girl.

Almost in the home stretch

Lack of work the past couple of weeks makes for a lot of knitting time. If my attention span and tendancy to rip were a little different, I’d be done with Ene’s by now. But look, we are almost there!

I think I can get this done by this weekend, so it will be a perfect birthday present for myself. Yeah, one of those days coming up pretty quickly.
I’ve also been working on the Deli sleeves when knitting in public so the second sleeve is underway. My goal is to have that one done for Rhinebeck. Which is less than two months away! Gah! I’d better use up a lot of yarn by then. And, get some more work so I can pay for more yarn. Hmmm. Guess that means I’d better get my ass in gear and work on my (other) site redesign. When all I really want to do is knit lace.
