Knitting Update

Posted by jackie blue on October 26th, 2006

Look! Another post from me! That’s 3 in less than a week. Can you stand it? I might just get back into this blogging thing.

So, Starsky didn’t make it to Rhinebeck. It was oh so close. But I knew that socializing didn’t mix too well with seaming and stuff and I didn’t want the bulk added to my suitcase. I worked on the belt on the ride up there and then basically forgot about it the rest of the weekend. I have about a yard of belt. Another to go. And then end weaving, belt loops, and about an inch more of collar/border. Like I said, oh so close. Luckily work is slow this week and I can take evenings to finish it. I expect a new sweater by the weekend.

And so I needed a small easy project for Rhinebeck since all my other in-progress things are far along and up to fiddly parts. A good time to return to socks. Especially when the entire universe was lining up for Socks that Rock and I’ve had some in my stash forever. This is STR in the Pebbles colorway. I started this (several times) on Friday, restarted it on Saturday, and knit it all the way home. It’s now my subway project.

Mmmmm. Socks.

The Small Haul

Posted by jackie blue on October 23rd, 2006

So I didn’t buy much at all this year. This doesn’t mean I didn’t spend money. Some things weren’t photographed, like the slippers I got Mom to thank her for staying the weekend and watching the animals - or the sheepskin wash I bought for my old dirty slippers - or the sheepskin I bought as a bed for Ty - I was going to post that but really I don’t want to offend those who might not like that I got a sheepskin. I feel hypocritical as it is, loving the animals and then eating lamb or wearing leathers - but I don’t want this to turn into a politically correct debate so let’s move on the yarn, shall we?

So I’ve been wanting some Trekking for awhile (it’s sock weather after all) and despite it’s availability locally, I headed to Carodan Farms and picked up these two lovelies.

That’s 107 and 108 for those of you playing at home.

Then, I only bought one other yarn. That’s it. Just one. But what a lovely one. A sweaters worth of organic merino from Greenwood Hill Farm. I have been coveting this since last year when Juno sent a few other friends to pick some up. This year, it was coming home with me. I figured despite the fact that I just bought a chocolate brown cashmere hoodie AND am knitting Starsky in chocolate brown, one can never have too much chocolate.

So yeah, that’s it. I did fall madly in love with some merino/alpaca that Brooks Farm had. Solid, not their usual. It was so soft I nearly cried. But it was pricey and that was Sunday, after I’d already bought all this merino on Saturday. I think I’ll just have to think about it all year and buy some next year.

Is it next year yet?

It’s Over, Sigh

Another whirlwind weekend come to close. Although this year blessed us with some rain again on Friday, the drive up was MUCH less stressful, and the weather on Saturday could not be more perfect. My biggest regret of the weekend is the usual - not spending enough time with various people that I don’t often get to see. It’s just so overwhelming trying to keep track of everyone! And I think Saturday had more people than ever before. It was mobbed.

We had a suite of 7 women and I wish I could have seen the living room gals a little more. But we had a nice gathering on Friday, and I really enjoyed, despite the worst headache, the hotel lobby gathering on Saturday night.

We discovered food right next to the hotel that really was pretty good. We listened to the Dandy Warhols at least a dozen times and I’m still singing it.

I met some nice new people and really enjoyed spending some quality time with new friend Julia.

I didn’t expect to buy much since my stash is out of control, and I really didn’t. My modest haul was not cheap but it’s pretty great. Photos of that to come, since right after getting home (and a couple of hours in the dog run with the pup) I had a little mishap at home involving a dog, a bird, and a glass dining table. Don’t worry, they are all fine. I, however, have a huge lump on the side of my forehead that is now turning purple. Thank goodness for long hair. I may scare small children. Anyway, needless to say, I didn’t feel much like photographing haul last night.

I leave you instead with some photos of the weekend - also wish I took more, missed so many people! I will caption them at some point. Must get back to work. (ugh)
