At last, 50s

Posted by jackie blue on September 30th, 2003

I mean the weather, not my age. This morning was delightfully sunny and cool, and although it will go up to the mid 60s by afternoon, I hope this means Fall is on it’s way.

I abandoned the Latifa for the weekend and picked up some Bernat Cotton that was in my closet and started a cute, simple little sweater from the Phildar Layette book I picked up. The yarn I’m using is a lot thicker and the needles 2 sizes bigger than the pattern calls for, so I have to adjust for size. I’m using less stitches than the 0-3 month size but following the measurements for 6 months. Hopefully it will come out OK. This is for a friend who had a baby a couple of weeks ago. I’ll hopefully spit this one out in a big hurry and then go back to my scarf. So far this weekend I did the back and about 4 inches of one of the front panels.

Well, back to a slow boring Tuesday.

Latifa so far

Well, here is a scan of what I have done on the Latifa scarf so far. This is a fun project, quick, and it will look so CUTE with this pink fall coat I have, that is, if we ever get Fall. It’s still so warm every day. I hope to work on this a lot this weekend and not let freelance work take over. I have to learn to budget my work time better.

In the quest for some good baby patterns and realizing I have all these babies surrounding me and not a lot of knitting choices, I joined the Crafters Choice club and ordered 4 books (ok, they weren’t all baby) and also got a Phildar layette book since Becky is always making the nicest stuff from them. I love that book! A lot of very cute choices. When I am going to find all the time (and money) to make all this stuff?

Exhausted after a night of hearing friends play music - whatever happened to the girl that could stay out till 5 a.m. the next morning every night? Now if a show ends at 1:30 a.m. I think, WOW, it’s so late. I hate this aging stuff. I realized last night when one of the guys on stage asked the crowd if they know who Pablo Cruise was, that I was one of the very few who did. Most of the crowd were not born yet or were in diapers when those guys ruled the airwaves. How did I get so old? Should I be insulted the bouncer didn’t ask for *my* ID?

Very Wet Tuesday

Posted by jackie blue on September 23rd, 2003

I just got caught in a total downpour. I thought the hurricane was supposed to be LAST week. Anyway, my shoes are so wet I had to take them off and my pants are soaked up to my thighs. I don’t think the rest of the office will appreciate if I take THOSE off.

Well, Latifa is coming along nicely. I received the oatmeal color a couple of days later than the other colors so to fill time I started doing the ruffles between the color blocks I already had and I decided this is a good way to go — I will just alternate knitting the body with adding ruffles to break it up. I will take a photo or scan the scarf soon.

Sunday was the Knit Out in NYC but I wasn’t all that impressed with last year’s so I just passed through quickly while they were setting up early, and grabbed a few patterns. Then later I stopped by again just to say hello to my friend Debbie and see her new book which should be on the shelves in a couple of weeks. The book looks GREAT and will surely get some new people into knitting.

Well, time to dry off and get some more knitting done.

Bzzz! Who is it? Delivery!

Yes, I got almost all the yarn for Latifa yesterday. Which of course means I’ve started it already. Although half the day seemed to go to winding hanks. I need a ball winder. Why on earth do they still sell yarn this way with all the technology to actually wind the things into neat little rolling packages? It’s a travesty.

The Silke-Tweed is lovely in color and appearance but is actually much courser in feel than I expected. It’s more like a silk/linen than silk/wool if you ask me. I don’t think this will be a particularly WARM scarf, but it will be lovely to look at.

Still waiting on one color which will hopefully arrive today since my movie plans got cancelled tonight and I will probably stay in and knit. Of course I can go myself or ask someone else to go out, but hey, I have a scarf to knit.
