I Caved

Posted by jackie blue on May 24th, 2006

I wasn’t supposed to buy any yarn. Any yarn that didn’t come from a gift certificate that is. And I wasn’t supposed to even think about new projects, because 2006 is the year of finishing, But oh, then this came along. And it’s so Jackie. So Jackie that I had to buy yarn immediately. I ordered this in this color:

because I so enjoyed it when I made that purple baby blanket, and because this is a good color for a lot of my summer wear. Sigh, no willpower. But at least no willpower cost less than $30 for both yarn AND pattern.
Alice has a second sleeve in the works and I expect to get more done tonight during the LOST finale when there is 2 hours of nothing happening and nothing answered.
In other news, my new toy arrived last night and I was up till 3 a.m. putting in contacts (and accidentally deleting many of them) from my old phone. Ah fun. I’m getting no work today - I can’t stop playing with it. And of course it has a camera:

Ty seems to be enjoying it. Oh wait, maybe it’s the Flossy making him so happy.Added later: I should probably point out that I know that yarn is a different gauge. I’m pretty good at adapting for size, so I’m not worried.

New Toy

So since people were interested in my cell phone choice I figured I’d post an update. I decided against the SLVR after all. Pretty as it was, it was still a Motorola, and my current phone (V600) drives me insane with it’s badly organized address book. When I found that they hadn’t improved that function for the L7, I decided it was time to make a brand switch.

After much research, I decided on the Nokia 6682. Reviews have been pretty solid. This baby has been ordered and hopefully will arrive next week. It may not be as sleek and stylish as a RAZR or SLVR, but hey, a phone you can watch TV on can’t be bad.

Alright, already

I’m tired of not posting. I can’t blame work, though I am working, it’s not been that hectic lately. I just haven’t been knitting all that much. I knit when friends come over to watch TV (my place has become Lost and Buffy headquarters) but progress is slow. Here’s where Alice is now:

A back, 2 fronts, one sleeve nearly to the cap shaping. It’s gonna be awhile, I think.
I seem to spend a lot of time on the web, researching stuff. One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is taking up sewing. Not that I really have a desire to sew, I don’t. But I see such pretty fabrics out there, and basic cotton skirts in stores I frequent (J. Crew, Anthropologie) run well over $100 for stuff I can probably make for $20. My mother sewed when I was a kid. A lot. I just never got the gene, I guess. But this might be coming in the mail soon.

Might. I can’t seem to press the “checkout” button. Do I really need another craft I may not stick to and never finish projects?
I’ve also been looking a lot at reviews for this.

I have a phone. A good phone. But I miss a lot of calls on it due to low volume ringtone and a vibrate function that is very flawed. I don’t need this. I don’t. It sure is pretty though.
Since this is becoming more of a pictorial than an actual post, this one’s for Claudia.

Even my dog is bored.

Ennui

Posted by jackie blue on May 2nd, 2006

I think I, like many of my blogging friends, am bored with my blog. It doesn’t help that my knitting monogamy lately has kept posts to a minimum, since 10 more lines on the same project just isn’t that exciting to blog about. It doesn’t help that I sometimes work on things that I can’t blog because it might be a gift and the recipient might read this. It doesn’t help that I’ve been too burnt lately to post about things that aren’t knitting related.
I’ve been blogging for quite awhile. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago I let my 4th Blogiversary completely go by, uncelebrated. I completely forgot about it. That’s ennui to the highest order.
And like others who have perhaps been bored with their blogs, I don’t really want to stop blogging. This blog has brought so many wonderful things, so many nice people into my life. I wouldn’t ever want to lose that.
So I think maybe I just need to shake things up a bit. I’ve been considering migrating to another blogging system and with that, I have a redesign in my mind. I know my project gallery sure needs a whole lot of updating. And maybe a fresh face will give me renewed interest. Actual work will probably get in the way so I don’t expect this to happen overnight. But look to this page for changes in the coming weeks. And maybe some actual knitting.
For a brief update on things around here: Alice now has a sleeve in progress, Ty had a bath and looks very white and fluffy, I walked the Central Park loop with Jenn this weekend for the first time in ages and I think being more active in general is going to really wake me up. One can only hope.
